Technological reduction and management of risks associated with advanced loop closure

Lead by VITO, Belgium (case studies 4, 5)

 

The objectives were:

  • to define and improve technologies to enable recycling of wash waters as raw materials into the process without any significant impact on the performance of the products, and reducing any micro-biological contamination to safe levels.
  • to improve the closure of the cooling water loop in the petrochemical industry.
  • to transfer treatment technologies for process streams from other sectors (food, chemistry) to water sector.
  • the development of an innovative and integrated ‘Low Liquid Discharge’ alternative to conventional ‘Zero liquid discharge’ systems that are based on evaporation technologies.
